Cleric Decries Eroding Values In Society
A Cleric with the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has charged the citizenry to always toe the path of honour by living a life worthy of emulation even after their death.
Venerable M.G. Uranta gave the charge during the burial service in honur of Late Mrs Leticia Michael Jaja at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church Opobo Town over the weekend.
The Anglican Priest while decrying the eroding values in the society said the citizenry must strive towards earning good reputation, as against the quest for material things
Venerable Uranta who picked the theme of his sermon from the book of Ecclesiastes 7: 1-4 said that a good reputation was better than material possessions, stressing that if the country’s leaders would put good legacy above the need to amass wealth, then the nation would grow tremendously.
The Archdeacon said, “let us crave for what is good because that is what God wants from us … we should all crave for good reputation while we are alive”.
He described late Mrs Jaja as a Christian woman who put good reputation above all during her life time adding, “she was also a woman of few words, peace loving and caring”.
Uranta urged the family to always imitate their late mother as she was a woman who would more be remembered by her good works and peaceful disposition.
Late Mrs Jaja, mother of The Tide’s Deputy Editor, Mr. Donald Mike Jaja retired from the Rivers State Government. Until she passed on late Mrs Jaja was a cloth merchant and woman leader in her home town Opobo.
Mrs Jaja died at the age of 78 years.
