Expert Hails FG’s Commitment On Library Dev
The Chief Librarian of the National Library of Nigeria, Cross River branch, Mr Abibang Oko, has commended the Federal Government for her interest in improving library services in the country.
Oko made the commendation in an interview with newsmen in Calabar.
He said that the present administration had shown tremendous interest in improving the libraries across the country for learning and research.
“The present administration at the federal level is very much interested in the development of libraries across the country,” he said.
He revealed that the federal government had started the construction of a permanent site for the state branch of the National Library in Calabar.
The librarian further revealed that new books were recently purchased and sent to the branch, while plans to install Internet services were at an advanced stage.
“Currently, we have started our permanent site building and a huge amount of money has been approved for that.
“They are introducing Internet service in all the branches, bringing in computers and carrying out renovation works, which shows that the government is very much interested in library services,” he said.
Oko debunked insinuations that Nigerian authors were no longer publishing books for readers and said, “they have not gone to sleep”.
He advised readers to take advantage of the current innovations in the libraries to enrich their knowledge.
