Bad Road Hampers Voters Registration
The deplorable condition of the Uroma Ekunuga road in Abual/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State is seriously affecting mobility for the on-going voters’ registration in the area.
The Tide learnt that the 28km road project which was awarded by the Niger Delta Development commission (NDDC) in 2003 has since been abandoned.
Speaking at separate interviews with newsmen in the area, the people complained that many of their people have refused to come home to participate in the exercise because of the deplorable conditions of the road.
In her view, the secretary of the Rivers State Female Aspirants Forum, Mrs Aselle Abigo, said that the entire Odual axis of the state has been cut off from the rest of the state following the poor condition of road project.
Worst still, Mrs Abigo said the situation is affecting school children as they can no longer attend schools in neigbouring communities.
She, therefore, called on the state government to re-award the road project as well as provide other infrastructural facilities to the communities.
Mrs. Abigo, who was a former House of Representatives Aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), however, thanked the people for their turn out for the exercise.
Also speaking, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), House of Assembly Candidate for the Abual/Odual state constituency, Hon. Augustine Ngo, also appealed to the state government to come to the aid of the people by providing the area with good road project.
