ACCOMIN Tasks RSG On Training Support
The Association of Civil Society Organisation on Malaria Immunization and Nutrition (ACCOMIN) has called on the Rivers State Government to support the activities of the organisation in capacity building programmes in the state.
The ACCOMIN chairman, Mr Johnson Ihua-Maduenyi, who addressed newsmen immediately after a review meeting on Malaria Control Booster Project organised by the Rivers State Ministry of Health in Omoku, said the support from the government will go a long way in developing the skills and knowledge of the rural dwellers on malaria control, accessing immunsation services and HIV/AIDS in the state.
“The people in the communities need to be trained adequately in order to be abreast with issues on malaria and other development issues”, he said.
According to him, the riverine areas need to be properly sensitized. “This is because the terrain has made it difficult for implementing bodies to carry out activities in the areas”.
We also train on entrepreneurs skills to enable youths to be self- reliant.
He commended the Rivers State government for making available several training skills for both graduates and non-graduates, whom he said “would have a variety of opportunities for job exchange”.
Consequently, the chairman blamed oil firms for the increasing unemployment rate in the state, stressing that the rate of retrenchment by oil firms has invariably left the youths to be unemployment.
As part of efforts to check the rate of unemployment he advised youths in the region to be involved in empowerment programmes such as those provided by Microfinance Banks.
