RSG Resettles 104 Songhai Trainees
The Rivers State Government, has resettled 104 Songhai farm trainees of Rivers origin.
A breakdown of the figures shows that 50 of the trainees were resettled at the Rivers State Songhai Farm Project at Bunu Tai in the Tai Local Government Area, while the remaining 54 were resettled at other regional farms.
Addressing the trainees shortly after their departure to Bunu Tai, the Executive Director of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA), Mr Noble Pepple said the resettlement marked the fulfilment of the desire of the Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s administration in ensuring that young Rivers men and women were engaged in sustainable ventures.
Mr Pepple explained that the move informed the state government’s decision to invest million of tax payers money in their training in Songhai farm, Porto Novo, Republic of Benin.
The RSSDA boss said the occasion marked the beginning of a new phase of government’s commitment to agricultural development, an indication that Governor Amaechi was bent on keeping to his promise of putting the state on a high agricultural development pedestal.
Mr Pepple, therefore, charged the resettled trainees to reciprocate government’s gesture by putting in their best, emphasising that their success would encourage the government to continue to invest in the programme.
He also told them that their success would open more opportunities for other Rivers youths to benefit from the programme.
Earlier, the RSSDA General Manager, Agro-Allied Services, Mr Biedema Oliver had said that all the necessary things needed for the Rivers Songhai farm had been put in place.
Some of the trainees who spoke to The Tide thanked the state government and the RSSDA for the investment in them and pledged to put in their best for the programme.
