PH Railway Recruits Staff
As part of efforts to inject new blood into the operations of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), as well as reposition it for better operations, the Port Harcourt station of the NRC has recruited new staff.
This new recruitment of staff, The Tide gathered, is also in line with the new policy of government to reactivate the operations of the Railway to make it more functional, since it is a prime area in the transportation of people and commodities across the country.
Speaking to The Tide on the new development, the Port Harcourt Station Manager of the NRC, Mr. Abiodun Ohioma said the directive to recruit staff came fro the Federal Ministry of Transport, and that the recruitment was done across the country in the six geopolitical zones of the country.
He said that in the South-South zone, of which Port Harcourt is the centre, 70 staff were recruited which cuts across the states that make up the South-South.
According to the station manager, these new staff are already undergoing a training course in Enugu, which is the headquarters of the Eastern districts.
Abiodun further explained that the rehabilitation of the rail tracks are on-going, pointing out that the former narrow gauge rail track is still to be maintained until when government will decide to phase it out.
Already, five out of the 25 locomotive engines imported from China have arrived, while the remaining 20 engines are being expected in the next twelve months.
