Amaechi Bags Award Over Child-Friendly Policies
A non-government organization, Child Right Brigade International, has conferred on the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, a special award for his child- friendly policies.
The award, which was conferred on Governor Amaechi over the weekend at Abuja, according to the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Joe Philip Poroma, is in recognition of the governor’s promotion of children welfare in the state.
Hon. Poroma said the present administration has created an enabling environment and opportunity for children in the state to enjoy full provisions of the law.
Specifically, he said, the recent passage of the Child Rights bill into law would drive the quick implementation of the convention on the right of the child.
He stated that currently, Rivers State is among the states in the country that has passed the Child Right law.
“In the light of this”, he continued, “the full sensitization of the entire Rivers people on the provisions of the Child Right laws would soon be felt”.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment in the protection and promotion of children friendly projects and programmes, and called on stakeholders and NGOs to join forces with the government in giving children their rightful place in the society.
The Commissioner commended the Child Right Brigade International for choosing Governor Amaechi for the award.
He assured that with the award, the state would continue to promote children friendly policies and education to move the country forward.
