20 Corps Members To Repeat Service In Rivers
About 20 corps members who absconded from service in Rivers State are to repeat their service year.
Similarly, a number of others who were involved in some forms of misconduct have had their service year extended from two weeks to five months each.
The Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Magnus Abe disclosed this Thursday in Port Harcourt at the passing out ceremony of Batch “B”, 2009 Corps members deployed to the state.
Abe, who is also the Chairman, Governing Board of the scheme in the state, however, expressed satisfaction with the performances of some of the Corps members who have contributed positively towards the development of their host communities.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services, Mr. Sovea Okari, he urged the outgoing Corps members to put into use the knowledge gained during the service year, and thanked all collaborating agencies for their support.
In her welcome address, the State Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs Esther Chimele Wogbo, said the service year always provided the opportunity for youths to contribute their quota towards the development of the country.
Mrs Wogbo further noted that some Corps members who have distinguished themselves creditably have been recommended for state Chairman’s Honours Award and the state Coordinator’s commendation certificate.
She used the occasion to call on other batches to emulates hardwork and dedication with a view to improving on the records already set.
