PH Zoo Gets Facelift Soon
Plans are underway to transform the Port Harcourt Zoo at Trans-Amadi area to a world class outfit.
The Director of Tourism in the Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Sokari Davies who stated this in an exclusive interview with The Tide in her office, Monday, hinted that the state governor, Chibuike Amaechi had at different times expressed his concern for the upgrading of the state zoological garden.
Mrs Davies said the zoo, when up-graded and fully operational, would boast of animals that had not been displayed at the zoo since its establishment some decades ago.
On infrastructure, the director said staff quarters, cages for animals among others would be given priority attention.
The Director who was not specific on when government’s initiative on the zoo would commence, assured that it would not outlive the tenure of the present administration since as she put it, “the government is dynamic in any project it embarks on with a passion.”
Davis debunked insinuations that the zoo was moribund as she said at festive seasons like Christmas, Easter holidays, the authorities organise events where parents bring their children to have fun.
