Ake Happy With Rivers Progress
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Chief Godspower Ake, says that the performance of the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has exceeded his expectations and that of the Party in just a few years in office.
Chief Ake stated this yesterday at a memorial service in honour of late Elder Renner Ikuru, father of the State Deputy Governor and Thanksgiving service for the Appeal Court victory of Governor Amaechi at St. Simon’s Anglican Church, Ikuru Town, in Andoni Local Government Area.
The PDP Chairman disclosed that in spite of his support for Amaechi to become the Governor of the State, he never thought he could perform to the extend he has done within a short time and lauded him for the monumental achievement, especially in the provision of infrastructural facilities.
He hinted that the PDP was not worried about the outcome of the Appeal Court election matter because even if the case went back to the election tribunal and was annulled, Governor Amaechi would have remained the Party’s candidate and based on what he has achieved within the short period, he would still have won a fresh election.
Chief Ake who thanked God for the victory, described the late Elder Renner Ikuru as a popular figure who contributed his quota to the growth of his Community, humble and dedicated to the service of God.
In his remark, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said while the case lasted he was never disturbed at all, explaining that the only reason why he excels was because God is incharge of his life and takes care of his activities.
Governor Amaechi urged the ruling PDP to learn to accommodate everyone because the Party was presiding over the affairs of the entire people of the State and therefore should be magnanimous in victory.
He thanked the members of the State Executive Council for their immense contribution to the record of achievements by his government and lauded the Deputy Governor Engr. Tele Ikuru for his valuable inputs to the success of the state government.
According to him, “the Deputy Governor to a large extent, is a good man and my decision to use him as deputy has not been misplaced, and he has been useful to the cabinet particularly as an engineer”, emphasizing that Mr. Ikuru comes with his own merit in the service to the state.
The Governor, who made a personal donation of Nl0million towards the building of a new Church project, urged the Anglican Communion to name the new Church after the late Elder Renner Ikuru.
Also speaking, the State Deputy Governor Engr. Tele Ikuru, said his father died in 2004, at the age of 85 years, having touched the life of many.
Ikuru thanked Governor Amaechi for joining members of his family at the memorial service and for accepting to work with him inspite of his lapses.
He said Rivers people and indeed Andoni Kingdom are happy with the governor for the developmental projects in their area such as the Unity Road, Schools, Health Centres and Land Reclamation, describing him as a friend of the Andoni people.
Earlier in his sermon, Rt. Rev. Raphael Ebirien, urged children not to despise their parents while parents should take care of their children properly if they wish to enjoy in future and described late Elder Ikuru as a man deserving the honour of a memorial
Rev Ebirien used the opportunity to commend Gov. Amaechi for his courage in handling the affairs of the state and advised him to grant political amnesty to all those that fought against him while they in turn should put the state above personal interest.
