Uphold Truth Always, Coy Executive Tasks Newsmen
The Monipulo Petroleum Development Company has challenged practiving journalists in Rives State to always uphold the truth in their report.s.
The Deputy Managing Director of the company, Mrs Solate Ovundah-Akakoko gave this charge yesterday during a thank- you- visit to the company by the Ethics and Disciplinary committee of the Nigeria Uion of Journalists (NUJ) Rivers State Council.
Mrs Ovundah-Akarola said it was by upholding the truth that Journalists can continue being the watchday of the society and reciprocate the good gesture of the committee.
She commended the committee for its vision to reposition journalism practice in Rivers State, saying the Monipulo decided to sponsor the workshop beause the proposal put forward by the NUJ Ethics committee was in line with the vision and motto of the compay which was based on excellence and integrity.
Earlier in his address, the NUJ chairman, Mr. Opaka Dokubo expressed gratitude to monipulo for its kind gesture and enjoined other companies operating in the state to emulate it.
Presenting the reports of the ethics workshop which took place in Port Harcourt on March 4 to the company, Mr. Opkaka said the NUJ would be glad if monipulo could make the sponsorship an annual event.
Also speaking, the chairman of the Ethics and Disciplinary committee, Mr Sm Iyoyo said the decision of the committee to hold the workshop was informed by the high rate of professional misconduct among practising journalists in the state.
He therefore thanked monipulo petroleum Development Company for sorming to the finaciacl rescue of the committee and the entire Rivers State Council of NUJ when it was most needed..

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
