Police in Auchi, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, have smashed a syndicate engaged in kidnap and armed robbery in Edo North Senatorial District, arresting seven suspects in connection with the recent kidnap of a Catholic Reverence Sister attached to Saint Vincent Catholic Church, Uzairue.

  The kidnapped nun had since been released after few days in captivity and she is now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital from maltreatment in the hands of the captors.

  The kidnappers, according to sources, scaled the fence into the premises located in a secluded area where the nuns had their hostel and carried out the dastardly act unchallenged.

  It was also gathered that the suspects took advantage of the loneliness and lack of security in the premises, adding that the suspects were helping the police with useful information that could bring about an end to the debacle.

  Kidnap and armed robbery had earlier called for a mass peaceful protest match led by the Otaru of Auchi, A. H. Momoh, and others involving the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area, clerics, concerned members of the civil society among others.

  In a related development, one of the notorious armed robbers at Auchi said the have terrorized the town in recent times mainly carrying out fierce operations at Jattu junction had been gunned down by the police.

  The body of the notorious armed robber, which was brought to the police station, attracted a huge crowd, who apparently jubilated, heaving a sigh of freedom in the hands of the late robber.

  Reacting to the development, the DPO, Mr Adamu Ngojin, appealed to the public to help the police to help them by giving vital information concerning people of dubious character in their midst.

  He noted that successful policing rested on all to play their parts through collaborative efforts between them and the police, while assuring of the readiness of his officers and men to act on information given in confidence.
