The exercise kicked-off exactly 10.00am. from the Airforce base saw the state Chief Executive, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi leading a train of over 400 participating floats which include banks and non-governmental groups.
By 11.00a.m. the procession had reached fever pitch level with several displays at Garrison, Rumuola, Waterlines, Lagos Bus stop to the Civic Centre. The floats were designed in different forms and colours.
There are some groups of ladies from Calabar that called themselves the “Hot Chicks Band”, one of them gave her name as Princess Ebong.
A Honourable who gave his name as Hon. Marcus Nemi from Okirika, Ogu/Bolo precisely described Ogwum the goddess of the river as a god that has brought peace and unity to the community and to the people of Okirika. He said some of the youths are not in unity so, CARNIRIV has brought all Okirikans together.
Carniriv can be done every week, they will appreciate it, “he said”. He concluded it is also part of exercise.
A man also gave his name as Earnest Eyobore from Delta State said CARNIRIV should be conducted yearly because if it should be every day, monthly there would be work free day, that means people won’t go to their businesses but if it is conducted yearly every one would like to participate in it. He compared the Calabar Carnival with that of Rivers State CARNIRIV. He said Calabar carnival there is no such like juju, masquerade and so on. He also went on to congratulate the Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for his wonderful works, just under two years he has given Rivers people hope. He concluded by saying, next year there shouldn’t be masquerade or juju that is if there would be another Carniriv.
