Pray For Yar’Adua’s Quick Recovery, N’Deltans Urged
Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has called on the people of the Niger Delta region to show concern over the health of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua by praying fervently for his quick recovery.
Governor Amaechi who made the call yesterday at a stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt, said Mr. President did not hide his sickness, and noted that it is good news that he is getting better, and requires the prayer of all Nigerians.
The Governor noted that no past President of this country has demonstrated more sincerity in addressing the issues of the Niger Delta area than President Yar’Adua, pointing out that his good gesture has propelled him to propose 10 percent of oil royalties to oil producing communities.
He advised Nigerians not to politicise the health of the President, but to join other well meaning people to pray for his quick recovery to enable him fulfill his promise to the Niger Delta people.
On the State Government’s plan for the new planting season, the Governor said government has made proper budgetary provision for the agricultural sector for 2010, explaining that new palm plantations would take off in Ikwerre and Ogoni axis of the state.
Governor Amaechi lamented the poor state of Risonpalm, noting that the solution to the company’s problem was to buy off the shares held by private individuals, and recapitalize before inviting interested investors.
He said the government was prepared to sign agreement with any investor to manage Risonpalm, while the Songhai Model farm at Tai would be cultivated together with another farm at Etche to boost agricultural production.
