Bayelsa Repositions Radio Station For Effective Service Delivery
Bayelsa State Government says it will continue to support the Bayelsa State Broadcasting Corporation to achieve set goals for effective service delivery. The state Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Orientation, Chief Asara .A. Asara stated this when the tenth anniversary Planning Committee of the Corporation paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Yenagoa. Chief Asara said for ten years of broadcasting, Radio Bayelsa has remained the voice of the people and commended management in its efforts to organise the anniversary of the station. The Information Commissioner who described the Radio as the mouth piece of government particularly in propagating policies and programme to the citizens, said in terms of programming, Radio Bayelsa ‘stands out and assured management or support at all times. According to him, since the inception of the state Broadcasting Corporation, the station has not shirked its corporate responsibility, stressing that government will strengthen Radio Bayelsa and the Gloryland Television to perform optimally. He, however, called on Bayelsans to change their perceptions on the issue or the proposed government bond loan, which he noted will be tied to specific projects like the three senatorial road stressing that the government plan, is to diversify the economy from oil to agriculture. The’ Information Commissioner called on those representing the state at the National Assembly to also give account of their stewardship especially concerning how they disbursed their constituency funds. He reminded them that the creation of more local government areas for the state as well as review of all obnoxious petroleum and land use acts and increased federal government presence should rather engage their attention and not to engage in a futile exercise to run down the administration of Chief Timipre Sylva which he said was running a transparent and accountable administration. Chief Asara .A. Asara lamented the spate of criticism on the present administration and called on every well meaning Bayelsans to support the government to drive the developmental process of the state to preferred destination. The Chairman of the State Broadcasting Corporation tenth year anniversary planning committee, Mr. Stan Opokuma said they were in the office of the commissioner to solicit the support of the ministry in the forthcoming tenth year anniversary of the station. According to Mr. Opokuma, who is also the Director News and Current Affairs, ten years in the media industry is a no mean fit, noting that it is ideal to celebrate the corporation’s ten years of existence and lauded the contributions of the commissioner. Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Samuel Isenah, who is also the Director of Programmes said the theme of the anniversary is “Repositioning Radio Bayelsa for effective service delivery” and also solicited the support of the state government for the committee to achieve set goals.
