Akawor Urges INEC To Emulate RSIEC
The State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Desmond Akawor has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to emulate the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) in the conduct of transparent elections.
The State PDP boss who spoke to journalists after casting his vote during the concluded Local Government Election in the state, described the election as hitch-free, fair and credible.
Akawor said, he was convinced from day one that the state electoral body would live up to expectations. Materials arrived early, even feelers from IPAC members showed that RSIEC was thoroughly prepared.
“ Nigeria will be a better place if the national electoral body emulates the Rivers State electoral body to ensure that we get the electoral process right and preserve democracy”, he said.
According to him, the most important thing as politicians is to wait for tomorrow, if you don’t succeed today. and called on losers to join hands with winners to move the state forward.
The State PDP boss commended RSIEC for conducting a peaceful and transparent election in the state that all well meaning people are proud of and lauded the security agencies for making the election a success.
He described the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, as a true democrat who had shown the road map for the entrenchment of democracy.
He said: “ the leader of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike has shown us the road map. In Rivers State today there is a template, that we do not have what used to be Riverine/Upland dichotomy.
“ We are now one indivisible entity, speaking with one loud voice and with developmental projects across the state. So we thank Gov Wike for this”, he said.
