NUJ Pushes Reconciliation, Condemns Rising Insecurity, Economic Woes
The national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has vowed to ensure that all aggrieved parties in the union were reconciled for the greater good of the union.
The national leadership, which gave the assurance at the end of National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Asaba, Delta State, at the weekend, also condemned the spate of insecurity and economic downturn rattling the country, despite efforts by well-meaning Nigerians to reposition the nation for sustainable, progressive development at all levels.
The union’s position was contained in a communiqué compiled and signed by John Angese, Ishaka Dedan Donald, Ladi Emmanuel, and the National Secretary of the union, Shuaibu Usman Leman, and made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt.
The NEC meeting was attended by national officers and chairmen and secretaries of 36 state councils and the FCT, and deliberated on issues affecting the union while x-raying the state of the nation with a view to proffering recommendations for implementation by the government.
On the state of the union, the communiqué read, “The issue of SWAN, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria was discussed exhaustively and NEC resolves that a seven-member committee be set up to conduct fresh election for the association within two months.
The members are, NUJ National Treasurer, Mohammed She, as chairman; Vice President, Zone F, Edward Ogude (member); Chairman, Lagos Council, Adeleye Ajayi (member); while two members each will be selected from the contending groups.
