Commissioner Tasks LG Staff On Workplace Ethics
A Commissioner in the Local Government Service Commission in Rivers State, Prince Obiandu Ohochukwu, has enjoined staff of Local Government councils to regard workplace ethics as their watch-word in order to fast-track development and progress.
Prince Ohochukwu made the call during a two-day workshop organised by the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission in conjunction with Daatim Nigeria Limited with theme, “ Public Trust and Workplace ethics for the 21st Century Local Government Council,” held at the NULGE Consulate, Port Harcourt.
According to him, the Commission had decided to hold regular workshops and seminars in order to keep the workers abreast with the current trend in workplaces. He urged them to take the workshop serious as it is aimed at improving their ability in their various Local Government Councils.
In his lecture titled,” Introduction to the Concepts of Public Trust and Workplace Ethics,” a lecturer with the Rivers State University, Kpolu, Port Harcourt, Dr Miebaka Dagogo Tamunomiebi, reiterated the need for staff of Local Government Councils in Rivers State to have ethical behavior in their workplace in order to secure and maintain the long-lost public trust.
Dr. Tamunomiebi noted that “there is an increased non-challant display by some members of staff across the Local Government Councils which had resulted to poor service delivery and performance, and expressed dismay that some councils are enjoying the lowest ebb of public trust.”
According to him, the presentation of the various papers, there is hope that the workshop would become instrument to the restoration of the public trust in their Local Government Councils, and also enhance progress and development.
The University Don further advised that councils should display morality and good conduct in every aspect of their lives including the workplace.
