I am Not Competing With MFM’s Stricker – Elkanemi Player
El Kanemi Warriors’ Samuel Mathias debunks talks about any competition between himself and MFM striker, Stephen Odey.
From the attacking midfield role, Mathias has scored nine goals while Odey has scored 14 goals after 18 Matchdays.
However, he insists there is no pressure to compete with the forward as he is focused on helping his team.
“I have played against Stephen Odey and I think he is a good striker and he’s doing well for himself and his team,” Mathias told newsmen.
“For me being the second highest goal scorer, I don’t feel any sort of pressure with Odey. There isn’t any kind of competition between me and Odey, he’s got his goals to score and I have mine too.
“My role and focus is to help my team, we want to win every match we play so that is what I want.”
With the mid-season transfer window already opened, clubs have tried to convince Mathias to make the switch, but he affirms that his interest is to helpLadan Bosso’s side achieve its set target.
“No doubt clubs have been making advances at me but I think this isn’t the right time to do this,” he said.
“We are like a big family here at El Kanemi Warriors, we promised ourselves to finish the race. We have enjoyed working together as a team and we shall by God’s grace fulfil our promise at the start of the season to meet our set target.
“If I leave El Kanemi Warriors at this time, it will be like a betrayal. So for me, I’ll see this season through with my present club, El Kanemi,” he concluded.
