Union of Universities (ASUU), Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) chapter, has passed a vote of confidence on the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Blessing Didia, for what they describe as his untiring efforts in repositioning and stabilising the institution.
Making the declaration during a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor in his office, leader of the delegation, Dr Emiha Jaja, extolled the leadership qualities of Professor Didia and expressed gratitude to the VC for restoring peace to the hitherto troubled university.
Dr Jaja, who is also the National Welfare Officer of ASUU, described Prof. Didia as the most outstanding VC in the history of the university, for among other things providing a secretariat for the union.
In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Blessing Didia reiterated what he called his “unwavering” commitment and zeal to develop the university with a quest to meet global standard.
He therefore solicited the support of all unions towards this end, while also restating his resolve to guarantee equity and fair play in his administration.
“The era of victimisation of staff and other counter-productive measures is gone for good,” professor Didia said.
Members of the delegation comprised the new executive of the union in the university led by the Chairman, Dr Soubere Puyate.
