Para-Athletics Federation Woos Sponsors
The Secretary, Para-
athletics Federation of Nigeria (PFN), Olabisi Aziz, has appealed to philanthropists and corporate organisations to assist to support the federation in executing some of its activities.
Aziz told newsmen in Lagos that the body was in need of financial assistance to participate regularly in competitions.
She stressed that they were compelled to seek help from outside, since the National Sports Commission (NSC) alone could not meet all their needs.
“The federation does not have private sponsors, we rely mainly on the Commission and since the money is usually not enough to cover all our activities, we are seeking support from anybody or organisation that can help.
“The NSC is trying, but we need sponsors that can assist us to accomplish many of the programmes that we have,’’ she said.
She noted that the Para-athletes were doing the country proud, irrespective of their physical challenge .
“When they attended the championships in Tunisia, we won 13 gold medals. Their ranking keeps improving because of the assistance of the NSC,” she said.
Aziz said she was optimistic that the crop of athletes invited to camp would do the country proud at the upcoming All Africa Games, scheduled to run from September 4 to September 19 in Congo Brazzaville.
