The Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Dandeson D. Jaja has said that he would ensure that the institution of traditional rulers is not politicised.
This, is because it is only when the institution is shielded from partisan politics that it would remain effective, relevant to the yearnings of the people and retain its respect and reverence.
King Jaja, who is the Amanyanabo of Opobo stated this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt at the weekend.
The Royal father stated that it was in the interest of justice that kingdoms affected adversely by the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers Law 2014 of the past government should be reviewed.
According to him, traditional rulers in the state have voiced their displeasure with the law at the recent public hearing of the House of Assembly Committee on the review of the law.
Answering a question, the Opobo monarch said his leadership at the Traditional Rulers’ Council in the state would focus on protecting the strategic interest of the state, work with government in its policy thrust and promote employment and well-being of the ordinary citizen.
He called on people of the state to support both the traditional institution and government to put the state on the path of sustainable socio-economic growth.
