Amaechi Blasts Okonjo-Iweala On Depleted Reserves
Rivers State governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors (NGF), Rt. Hon.Chibuike Amaechi has faulted claims by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala that governors requested for the sharing of the money slated for Excess Crude Account.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign in Buguma headquarters of Asari-Toru Local Government Area on Wednesday, Amaechi said already the money was being mismanaged hence governors insisted it must be shared before it’s depleted.
Amaechi explained that instead of the monies increasing it was decreasing as the Federal Government adduced several reasons for using the money without any good explanation.
“So, we insisted that it must be shared instead of coming to hear it’s being used; if Ngozi is serious about fighting corruption she should have resigned now because the level of corruption is too much,” he said.
The Rivers governor therefore warned the citizenry to vote out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as another four years for President Jonathan will spell doom for the country, considering the level of corruption at the centre.
“Learn to vote people out, the day government learns to become responsible to you then the people have the power,” Amaechi remarked.
Amaechi also urged the people to vote Dr. Dakuku Peterside, whom he said is young and can govern the state with vigour and agility.
On his part, gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Dr. Peterside has promised to tackle flooding in the ancient town of Buguma, if voted into power.
He said, “In my first few years as governor we shall deliver Trans-Kalabari, Buguma drainage to avert flooding.”
Considering the dearth of land in the riverine community, the Rivers APC governorship candidate stressed, “we shall complete Greater Buguma Water scheme.”
Earlier, Chairman of the APC, Chief Ibiamu Ikanya, called on the people of the area to vote out the PDP in order to get their ceded oil wells in Soku back.
Former Minister of Petroleum and elder statesman, Prof. Tam David-West, endorsed the candidacy of Peterside, describing him as genuine Christian and capable of sustaining the achievements of Amaechi.
Others who, canvassed for support to the party, include former chairman of the council, Ojukaye Flagg-Amachree, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Joeba West and Lolo Ibieneye.
