Eze Opurum Tasks Etche Youths On Peace
The Onye Ishi Etche, Eze
Emmanuel N. Opurum, has attributed the crises in Etche land to lack of respect to elders and inability of family heads to feed the spirits of their forefathers.
Eze Opurum stated this in his palace at Ndashi in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday while installing Chief Alex Mpi as Ngbaragida and the Chief of Umuochamba community in Mba Agwuruish town.
The royal father noted that some family heads claimed that libation and feeding of their forefathers spirits was against their Christian religion, stressing that such claim was not enough to starve the spirits of forefathers in line with the tradition of Etche land.
The Onye Ishi Etche also advised Etche people, especially the youth to always respect the elders and constituted authorities for peace in Etche land.
He described the position of Ngbaragida as the foundation of traditional leadership in any Etche community and urged the Chief of Umuochamba to be just, fair and fearless in dispensing justice in his community.
His Eminence, Eze Opurum in the presence of other members of Etche Supreme Council of Chiefs and Traditional Rulers crowned the new chief who was presented before Eze Opurum by the elders and youths of Umuochamba community.
The newly crowned Chief Mpi, while responding, promised to carry every member of the community along in the discharge of his duties and commended the people for the confidence reposed in him.
