Onigbinde Supports Goal-Line Technology
A former Head Coach of
the Super Eagles, Adegboye Onigbinde, has described the introduction of goal-line at the 2014 Brazil World Cup as a welcome development.
Onigbinde told our correspondent in Lagos that the introduction of the technology would clear all doubts about shoddy goals.
The first time at a World Cup, the officials would be assisted by goal-line technology.
The 2010 World Cup was a catalyst for the decision to adopt the technology after England was wrongly denied a goal in their round 16 tie against Germany, which disallowed Frank Lampard’s goal against Germany.
“I remember that we have been talking about this at FIFA Technical Committee meeting for about 10 years.
“I think for FIFA to introduce this, means the technology has now been perfected,’’ he said.
According to him, it has been test-run in some FIFA competitions like the 2013 Confederation Cup.
“The new technology will give confidence to all participants. It will clear all doubts and it will also reduce arguments that emanate from goals that are not clear.
“I think it will be able to correct human errors committed by referees,’’ he said.
The 2014 World Cup will kick off on June 12 and end July 2014.
