Association Moves To Popularise Rugby
Lagos State Grassroots Rugby Development has fixed December 28 for a one-day tournament aimed at popularising the game in the country.
The Coordinator of the development, Tunbosun Johnson told newsmen in Lagos that the competition would hold at Elegushi Beach, Lagos.
Johnson said that 16 teams, comprising seven players in each team, would feature in the tournament, organised to herald the future development of the sport.
“The country is blessed with abundant talents that would benefit from the tournament.
“The benefactors will no doubt further popularise the game in 2014.
“Therefore, to make the sport attractive to sponsors, we intend to popularise it by organising a one day beach tournament,” he said.
According to the coordinator, the tournament is a joint sponsorship by the 16 clubs, to show their dedication to the development of the game in the country.
“This is not a federation-sponsored competition, but rather a joint sponsorship which indicated the interests of rugby players to promote the sport,” he said.
Johnson expressed optimism about the immense gains players would benefit from the event, saying it would further enhance positive interaction.
