NSSF Boss Tasks Govs On Sports Dev
The President, National
School Sports Federation (NSSF), Ibrahim Muhammed, has appealed to states not represented at the just-concluded schools’ sports festival to encourage youth sports development in their areas.
Muhammed made the call at a news conference while reflecting on the just concluded 2013 edition of the festival in Ilorin.
“We urge the state governors to support the youths to grow meaningfully by encouraging their participation in sports,’’ he said.
The NSSF president said sports could go a long way in further uniting the country.
“Coming together is a child’s right, and this must be respected,’’ he said.
Muhammed praised states such as Lagos, Kano, Ondo, Niger, Cross River and Anambra for their consistency in attending NSSF programmes.
The NSSF president also expressed happiness at the level of compliance with age-grade regulations at the Games.
“I think we have achieved something, even though we did not achieve 100 per cent compliance with the ages of the athletes at the event,’’ he said.
Muhammed said NSSF was truly for school sports, assuring that he would ensure the body laid a solid foundation for the development of the country’s youths in the sports sector.
He commended host state Kwara for coming to the rescue of NSSF when the initial host-designate, Akwa Ibom, opted out of hosting the festival.
The festival ended on November 30.
