NURSS Wants End To ASUU Strike
The leadership of the
National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) has made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government and the striking university lecturers to end the four-month industrial action in the interest of the students.
Making the appeal to The Tide in Port Harcourt, the Secretary of the body, Comrade West Okeinaye Levi lamented the monumental damage the strike had done to academic calendar of the nation.
The NURSS scribe expressed worry that students had continued to bear the brunt of the unfortunate strike even when they were not instrumental to it. He appealed to both ASUU and the federal government to go back to the drawing table and resolve the vexing issue so that the innocent Nigerian students could go back to classes.
Comrade Levi also appealed to elder statesmen in the country, traditional leaders, religious leaders, and members of the National Assembly to consider the strategic place of Nigerian youths as leaders of the nation’s future and ensure quick resolution to the problem.
The NURSS Secretary suggested that students be included in panel set up to consider Nigerian educational development, stressing that most representatives of the government in similar discussions were people whose children and wards were not studying in the country, hence, might not have serious interest to protect.
