The National Orientation
Agency (NOA) has blamed the low implementation of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act in Rivers state on lack of enlightenment.
The Acting Director of the Agency in Rivers State, Mr. Oliver Wolugbom said this in an interview in his office that the Agency has commissioned its community mobilisation officers in the 23 local government areas to embark on massive enlightenment on the significance and content of the Act.
He said that the campaign which is holding in all local government areas from the 21st of August will last for eight days. The NOA Director listed some advantages of the Act to include: ensuring good governance in the State as well as creating opportunities for people to hold their leaders at the various levels accountable.
Wolugbom said that the agency is already sending monitors across the State to see to the success of the enlightenment campaign and stressed the need for mass participation of the people.
The NOA Director also charged all officers to appoint Desk Officers to manage information, and urged ministries, departments and the people to give maximum support for the success of the campaign.
