Imo Employs 2,000 Teachers Gives N10,000 Dressing Allowance
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State on Wednesday announced the employment of 2,000 teachers for effective teaching.
At the inauguration of “No teacher, No School’’ programme of his administration, and the presentation of school inspectors, Okorocha said adequate and right calibre of teachers would enable the state to realise its educational goal.
He said that school enrolment in the state had risen to one million from 470,000 due to the introduction of free education.
Okorocha promised to supply more school uniforms, sandals and bags for pupils and students.
He said from now on, any teacher who rejected a transfer, especially to the rural communities, risked sack.
The governor promised to look into the arrears of leave allowances owed teachers, and announced a N10,000 dressing allowance for each newly-employed teacher..
The governor said that the job of inspectors was to monitor the performance of teachers and schools in the state and to ensure work ethics in the school system.
He asked them to monitor teachers’ lateness to school, absenteeism and failure to prepare lesson notes.
The governor said that they should also find out whether all items supplied to schools were duly received and distributed.
Okorocha further mandated the inspectors to monitor the utilisation of the N200,000 imprest earlier given to each head teacher.
He also announced that any teacher who absented from school without due permission would be surcharged N10,000, while lateness would attract a N5,000 surcharge.
