Henry Hopeful On Van Persie’s Stay At Arsenal
Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry is hopeful that Dutch forward Robin van Persie will decide to stay at the Emirates Stadium.
Van Persie, who scored 37 goals last season for Arsenal, announced that he would not sign an extension to his deal at the club, which runs out in just under 12 months.
That has led to plenty of speculation about the striker’s future, with Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus all said to be monitoring his situation.
Henry netted over 200 goals for Arsenal and is hopeful van Persie remains at the club, although he said it would not be a crisis if he does depart.
“We hope he stays, and that’s the way it is,” Henry told Tidessport source.
“I don’t know exactly what is happening but as an Arsenal fan I want him to stay. He is still an Arsenal player and the boss has to deal with it.
“I just want Arsenal to do well. Robin will do what he will do and we’ll see. When I left, everybody cried, but then the year after they went on a run of being eight points ahead. Everyone comes and goes.”
Speaking from New York, who he plays for in the MLS, Henry also expressed his concern for Jack Wilshere, who is not expected to return to first-team football until October, after missing all of the 2011-12 season with an ankle injury.
Henry described the energetic midfielder as integral to the club’s future success and hopes to see him back in an Arsenal shirt soon.
“You want Wilshere around,” he said.
“He reminds me of when I first arrived when the old guard was there. He’s an Arsenal fan in the first place and you need this type of player around in the dressing room.
“It’s not only that he’s an Arsenal fan, and not only an Englishman, but he’s a good player, it’s as simple as that.
“What a shame that he stopped a bit (injury) because he was on his way. I just wish him all the best that he can come back quick and wear the shirt he loves so much.”

PH To Host 2026 NWFL Super Six
In a statement released by the league, the competition is scheduled to take place from Friday, June 5 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, with six clubs set to battle for the league title at the end of the 2025/26 season.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the choice of Port Harcourt reflects the Rivers State Government’s continued support for women’s football and its successful hosting of the league’s Annual General Assembly last year.
The Super Six tournament will feature the top three teams from Group A and Group B of the regular season competing in a round-robin format, with each club playing five matches over nine days.
Qualified teams for the competition include defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, and debutants Abia Angels.
The NWFL Premiership has produced four different winners in the last five editions, with Rivers Angels winning in 2021, Bayelsa Queens claiming the title in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens triumphing in 2023, and Edo Queens emerging champions in 2024.
The league also urged participating clubs to comply with all competition regulations and directives ahead of the championship. The Super Six will determine Nigeria’s representative for the WAFU-B qualifiers for a place at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and ultimately the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
Teams are expected to arrive on Friday, June 5, when the draw ceremony and pre-match meeting will also take place. Matchdays are scheduled for June 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14, with rest days in between before the tournament concludes with the trophy presentation ceremony.
