Committee Promises Memorable Olympics For Nigeria
The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has expressed its determination to ensure that Nigeria’s participation in the London Olympic Games would be memorable.
The President of NOC, Mr. Sani Ndanusa, told newsmen at the weekend in Abuja that arrangements had been made to ensure a successful outing for Team Nigeria in the games.
Ndanusa said the National Sports Commission (NSC), in spite of its limited resources, had provided the necessary funds to ensure a smooth preparation and participation in the games in London.
He said this was evident in the seriousness noticed in the training camps, “which suggested that the coast was clear for the country to excel at the Olympics.
“Today, as I am talking to you, the weightlifters are in Germany training under world class facilities.
“We have the taekwondo training in Korea, while the canoeing athletes are in Nottingham, London.
“The boxers are under intense training in Bradford also in London and they are doing very well. Bradford is the biggest centre of excellence for boxing in the world,” he said.
Ndanusa said that the athletes and coaches were not leaving anything to chance to ensure a successful outing.
He said the NSC was eager to see Team Nigeria make a mark in the Olympics, unlike the previous games where funds had always hindered preparation.
The Tidesports reports, that the Federal Government has released N1.9 billion to the NOC through the NSC to ensure a memorable outing for Nigeria.
