Amaechi Promises To Appoint More Female Perm Secs
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has pledged to appoint more women as Permanent Secretaries in the State Civil Service .
Governor Amaechi stated this last Thursday during an interactive session with Rivers women at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Port Harcourt . He said the decision was in line with his determination to promote gender equity and equality.
Governor Amaechi added that the state executive council ,during its last meeting had resolved to appoint more female permanent secretaries.
Governor Amaechi reiterated his administration’s determination to create job opportunities for women and build human capital in the state.
The state chief executive said his administration would continue the yearly Christmas discount market to cushion the effects of the yuletide season’s increase in prices of goods and services on the people.
Governor Amaechi urged women to access the two billion naira micro credit facility lodged with the Rivers State Micro-Finance Agency (RIMA) to promote the growth of small and medium scale enterprise to boost our local economy .
Earlier, wife of the Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi said the women were in Government House to appreciate Governor Amaechi for giving them a pride of place in governance.
She said women in Rivers State had recorded lots of success in its partnership with the government and witnessed a paradigm shift in the Amaechi-led administration and disclosed that women in the last local government elections in Rivers State produced 45 councillors while one woman was elected chairman of local government council.
Mrs Amaechi attributed women’s political reawakening and consciousness to the Governor’s ingenuity and support for women’s quest for actualising 35 percent affirmative action in both appointive and elective positions

Technology Key to Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Development, Says Computer Scientist
Dr. Legborsi Emmanuel, former state Chairman of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), has emphasized that technology is the sure way for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
He made this assertion while speaking with newsmen at the sideline of 118th inaugural lecture series of Rivers State University (RSU) held in port Harcourt, wednesday.
He stressed that the lecture, which focused on emerging technology and its impact on the socio-economic development of the country, aligns with the NCS’s economic focus.
He highlighted the importance of building an economy driven by technology, citing the success of the Rivers State Smart Economy policy as an example.
The computer scientist emphasized the need for innovation and doing things differently, asserting that “technology is the only way out” for Nigeria’s development. He praised the lecturer, Professor Mathias Daniel, for exploring the applications of technology in various sectors, including agriculture, industry, transport, and socio-economics.
Dr. Emmanuel underscores the critical role technology plays in driving socio-economic growth and development in Nigeria by leveraging technology, the country can unlock new opportunities and address pressing challenges.
