NBRRI Set To Revive Centres
The Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) says it will revive its Kano and Nnewi zonal offices to avail the regions with technologies and training scheme needed in the construction sector.
The Director-General of theIinstitute, Prof Danladi Matawal told newsmen recently in Abuja that the institute would establish additional three zonal offices this year.
He said the establishment of the offices in different parts of the country would also bring cheap alternative building materials to Nigerians at their different locations.
Matawal said the offices would help in providing miniature laboratory services on construction materials to the construction industry.
He said that approval had been given to establish the South-South zonal office at Uyo, North-East zonal office at Gombe and the North-Central zonal office at Jos.
“We need to use these zonal offices as training centres to empower the various geo-political regions of the country, the state and the local governments in particular.
“This is aimed at providing alternative building techniques towards labour-based rural scheme that are important for economic empowerment of the country.
“It will also avail them of the technologies and training schemes that are important in the building, road and construction sector.’’
Matawal also said that the institute was poised to renovate its Lagos office while it would also re-equip its national laboratory complex located in Ota, Ogun.
“ Lagos office is very significant in the sense of high concentration of construction, so we will renovate the Lagos office and then begin to develop the laboratory there.
