Man Bags Two Yrs, 21 Strokes For Stealing Church Properties
A middle age man, Mr Abbas Useni has been sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour and 21 strokes of the cane by a Port Harcourt chief magistrate court presided over by Mrs Suzzettee Nyesom Wike, for stealing properties belonging to Foundation Faith Church, Rumuolumeni Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Mr Useni, 27, was arraigned on a seven count charge of stealing, breaking and entry, obtaining by false pretence, impersonation, bail jump and robbery.
The Police Prosecutor, Sergent Adiari Idafi, during the trial told the court that the convict and others at large on December, 2010 in the Port Harcourt magisterial district did stole seventy two pieces of six inches block, six pieces of 12 mm rod, 6mm rod, one roll of binding wire, 4 head pan and three shovels valued at N30,000.00 belonging to the Foundation Faith Church, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt.
Sergent Idafi further told the court that the convict on May 11, 2011 at Iwofe, Rumuolumeni obtained by trick the (N130,000) from Mr Amadi Anthony on the pretence to lease him a self contain accommodation as well as presented himself as an employee of the state security service in the state.
He told the court that all the offences are punishable under Section 516(A)(1), 309,419,390 (9), 108 of 135 of the Criminal Code Cap C 38 Laws of the federation 2004 as applicable in Rivers State. The accuse was found guilty of all the charges.
Delivering judgement, the trial Chief Magistrate, Mrs Suzzettee Nyesom Wike sentenced the accused to two years imprisonment with hard labour or an option of N10,000 fine.
The court further ordered the Police Prosecutor, Sergent Adiari Idafi to give the convict twenty one strokes of the cane.
