Oshiomhole Signs Security Trust Fund Act
As part of efforts to make Edo State safer for citizens, Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has signed into law, a bill on Security Trust Fund, to enable corporate organizations and other stakeholders contribute their quota towards the security of lives and property in the state.
The Governor made this disclosure when he granted audience to the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr David Omojola and his predecessor, Mr Kachi Udeoji in his office at Government House.
According to the Governor, modern policing is dependent on the availability of modern equipment. Said he: “I have travelled far and wide and I do know that effective policing now is more about facilities available, tools available to combat and detect crime. Those technologies exist but they are often not taken advantage of. I know that unfortunately the Nigeria Police does not seem to have the equipment it needs to fight crime in a decisive manner”.
Comrade Oshiomhole disclosed that the Special Police Fund that is being created by the federal government with contributions from the states and local governments would ensure that the police is properly equipped.
He tasked the new Police Commissioner to tackle the problem of armed robbery and kidnapping in the state, adding, “I believe that under your leadership you will not only improve on the standard that you met, but that together we would rededicate ourselves to ensure that the good people of Edo State feel a sense of security”.
Earlier, the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. David Omojola commended the state government for its consistent support to the Police. He assured that the command would strive to ensure that crime is brought to the barest minimum.
