Permanent Secretary Hails Planned Re-positioning Of Govt Media
Rivers State Governor’ Rt Hon Chibuike, Amaechi has been commended for strategising a plan towards the reorganisation of the state-owned media houses and the government printing press to enhance effective production. The Permanent Secretary of ministry of Information, Dr Godwin U. Mpi gave the commendation while speaking with journalists shortly after his conferment with award of special honour/installation as patron by the Ebenezer African church during the 2009 Annual Harvest thanksgiving service at IDO, in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State last Sunday. Dr Mpi said the Governor’s decision was to enable the state media houses including the government printing press operate in a most utmost manner that would make them compete favourably with national media outfits. Describing Governor Amaechi as a visionary leader, the Permanent Secretary said the governor was one who is always forward-looking and has the interest of the Rivers people at heart. Dr Mpi expressed appreciation to the Ebenezer African Church of Ido, on the honour done him and promised to stand by the church to ensure that things went on smoothly. He used the opportunity to urge Christians to always work closer to God with clean hearts and have abundance of blessings. Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, His Royal Highness, Alabo Omubo C Odibo-Tom Big Harry thanked the church for according him that honour and recognition as one of the patrons. Alabo Odibo Tom-Big Harry who was represented by Chief A.C. Harry, enjoined the church elders to always communicate to him whenever they are in need for the upliftement of the church so that the work of God would continue to grow. In a welcome address, the chairman of the 2009 harvest committee of the Ebenezer African Church Ido, Evang. Ibinabo Young Mathew said the church had ever been at the forefront of evangelism in the community and its environs as it had contributed immensely towards the eradication of social vices in the area. Evang Mathew, therefore, appealed to all grand patrons, patrons and members of the church to contribute towards promoting the work of God.

Technology Key to Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Development, Says Computer Scientist
Dr. Legborsi Emmanuel, former state Chairman of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), has emphasized that technology is the sure way for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
He made this assertion while speaking with newsmen at the sideline of 118th inaugural lecture series of Rivers State University (RSU) held in port Harcourt, wednesday.
He stressed that the lecture, which focused on emerging technology and its impact on the socio-economic development of the country, aligns with the NCS’s economic focus.
He highlighted the importance of building an economy driven by technology, citing the success of the Rivers State Smart Economy policy as an example.
The computer scientist emphasized the need for innovation and doing things differently, asserting that “technology is the only way out” for Nigeria’s development. He praised the lecturer, Professor Mathias Daniel, for exploring the applications of technology in various sectors, including agriculture, industry, transport, and socio-economics.
Dr. Emmanuel underscores the critical role technology plays in driving socio-economic growth and development in Nigeria by leveraging technology, the country can unlock new opportunities and address pressing challenges.
