N’Delta Ex-Agitator Bags UN Peace Award
A former Niger Delta Agitator, High Chief Solomon Ndigbara, has been conferred with Eminent Peace Award by the International Association of World Peace Advocate.
International Director of the association, Archbishop professor Chidi Ehiriodo, said High Chief Ndigbara deserves the award in view of his commitment towards a peaceful Ogoni and the rest of the Niger Delta.
He said by the conferment, Ndigbara has been provided with a platform to contribute towards ensuring global peace.
Prof. Ehiriodu described Ndigbara as a man of influence, adding that those normally appointed as peace ambassadors must have the influence and charisma to promote peace in their areas of influence.
He urged him to continue to promote peace in Ogoni land and the rest of the Niger Delta.
Also speaking, spokesperson of the association, Dr.Emmanuel Nkweke, said Ndigbara is now recognised as an international person whose contributions to peace will be acknowledge globally.
He said he would now be required to participate in the United Nations Assembly where issues concerning the welfare of indigenous people are being discussed.
Nkweke said Chief Ndigbara was the first Ogoniman to be so recognised as a peace ambassador by the organisation.
Speaking to newsmen after receiving the award, Chief Ndigbara thanked the organisation for the honour done to promising to ensure that Ogoni land remain peaceful.
Ndigbara also warned against any further blood shed in Ogoni land.
He condemned the recent fracas between some Ogoni and Andoni youths, adding that both the Ogonis and Andonis should not allow personal problem to engulf the two ethnic groups.
