The Old Boys Association of Okrika Grammar School (OGS), class 9 has honoured teachers with an award for their efforts in giving them sound educational background.
Those honoured were Dr Cyrus Iyeneomi Kalio, Pastor Peters Iyeneomi, Mr Samuel Ene Ben — Kalio, Mr Owutamunopiri Nathan, Sir Dim Tamunokuro, Alabota Beauty Miebaka James Fuayefika, Sir Allen Amakiri while late Dr Simeon Epeya (Phd) was given posthumous award.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Multi-purpose Hall of Okrika Local Government Council on Sunday, the President of the association, Mr Fuayefika Tamunokuro Loveday expressed delight as they make a milestone in the history of the school and the association.
Mr Fuayefika, who quoted Romans chapter 13 verse 7, said the teachers rendered services that had impacted positively on their lives, hence the honour to whom is due, stressing that the body found them worthy for the honour.
According to him, class 91 had set the pace for others to follow as it is the only set that had been holding regular meetings and honouered their teachers, pointing out that it is unique and they deserved it.
The president who described the teachers as their fathers and mothers noted that their labour of love is not vain because some of the boys they taught in the school about 22 years ago are now matured men and in all fields of endeavour in the society and abroad, saying, “it is a pride to you as we make bold to say you teachers have produced doctors, engineers, financial experts, captains of industries, lecturers even teachers and pastors etc”.
He maintained that it is indeed a proof that their teachers are highly productive as well as their former students because the gains they derived from them had manifested, as they spent their time, resources, energy and knowledge to give them greater heights in the society.
Mr Fuayefika Tamunokuro Loveday prayed God to give the teachers long life and salvation in order for them to reap from their dividends and labour, which he said should be sustained, and thanked all for making the day a huge success and historical.
Highlights of the day was presentation of awards to the teachers, dinner and Health Talk by Dr Dickson Adah as well as a paper presentation by Engr Simeon Michael Wariboko on the title, “The Role of Civil Engineering Professionals on Safety of Construction Project in the Society, including a thanksgiving service at St. Peters Catherdral, Okrika.
