RSU Tops Nigerian Universities In Debate Competition
The Rivers State University (RSU) Nkpolu, Port Harcourt has emerged the best in the just concluded debate competition among Nigerian universities.
The state premier university which was represented in the competition by the students of Mass Communication Department, also took second position in public speaking.
Receiving the awards on behalf of the institution from the participants, the Vice Chancellor of the state university, Prof Blessing Chimezie Didia thanked the lecturers and students of the Mass Communication Department for making the institution proud by emerging victorious, adding that the success recorded by the students was the result of efforts put in by his leadership to ensure that the university ranks among the best higher institutions in the country.
The vice chancellor while congratulating the victorious students for effective representation of the university, announced an undisclosed cash rewards for the lecturers and students who participated in the competition.
Earlier in his speech, the Acting Head of Mass Communication Department, Dr Richard Amadi while presenting the awards to the vice chancellor noted that the success achieved by the students was attributed to the encouragement and academic policies put in place by the present administration in the university.
He described the awards as a national honour and dedicated same to the vice chancellor for his contributions toward the development of the university for international repute.

Education Commissioner Seeks media collaboration in Rivers
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state.
