Insecurity: Council Bans Motorcycles In Isiokpo
As part of the measures to curb crime in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr Sunny Wondikun has announced the ban of motorcycles popularly called okada in Isiokpo, the headquarters of the area.
Wondikun, who announced this last Wednesday in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt said the decision to ban the movement of motorcycles in the area was reached in a security meeting held with some security agencies and stakeholders at the council.
He said the movement of motorcycles was stopped at night to monitor closely the movement of criminal elements, who always operate by night.
The council boss said a special security taskforce has been set up to monitor the movement of okada and as well as checkmate criminal activities at night and day in the area.
According to him, the gesture was part of the mandate given to him by Governor Nyesom Wike to ensure adequate security in the area.
Wondikun said the council would not spare any person aiding and abetting crime in the area, irrespective of party affiliation.
He called on the youths in the area to shun activities that would lead to violence and criminality, saying that his administration would not tolerate insecurity in the area.
