Youth Election Suspended In Ubie Community
Ubie Youth Assembly, anumbrella youth body of 21 communities of Ubie Clan in Ekpeye Kingdom is allegedly enmeshed in political quagmire.
Information made available to The Tide indicates that undue interference by politicians in Ekpeye land has marred smooth conduct of the youth election.
The Tide learnt that contestants of the vacant offices were kept in abeyance as agitations from the political class raged in the circumstance.
Following the rising tension, some aspirants started trading blames with their sponsors and persuaders for their inability to ensure a peaceful atmosphere and equitable distribution of materials and logistics for the election.
According to the recent order in Ekpeye land aimed at resuscitation of the Ekpeye Youth Congress (EYC) and its component youth bodies, comprising Akoh, Upata, Ubie, Igbuduya, Ehuda, Ugbobi and Orlukwor clans, elections had been concluded in all the seven clans of Ekpeye kingdom, except Ubie where there is deep political interference.
In a bid to douse the electoral tension in Ubie clan, His Majesty Eze (Flt. Lt.) Robinson O. Robinson CON, JP (rtd.) Eze Ekpeye Logbo II of Ekpeyeland who was abreast of the political gimmicks going on in the youth circle, made a rash decision dissolving the Comrade Okwueme L. Israel-led interim government of Ubie and the electoral committee (Eleco).
Eze Ekpeye Logbo further directed that the community’s elected chairman should take over the leadership of the Ubie Youth Assembly as well as constitute another Eleco to conduct the youth election.
Robinson added that all the contestants be subjected to proper scrutiny through state security service (SSS) and the police in the Local Government Area to determine who is a cultist among them.
Meanwhile, a 5-man committee comprising Comrade Abali Innocent, Chairman;Chinyere Ogbomudia, Secretary and Egwele Otuya, Treasurer was constituted. They are to oversee Ubie youth election until a substantive executive is peacefully elected and inaugurated.
It is reported that the youth election in Ubie clan assumed a different dimension as rival political parties PDP and APC members in the area seemed to be at daggers drawn over who will be the arrow head of the youths.
