Lawmaker Decries Indiscriminate Cattle Grazing
The lawmaker representing Isoko South II, in the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Johnson Erijo, has called on security agencies to implement the legislation on indiscriminate cattle grazing.
Erijo made the call in an interview with newsmen in Asaba.
He said that several lives had been lost in ensuing clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the affected communities.
The lawmaker said this law became necessary in order to reduce such clashes in the country.
He noted that indiscriminate grazing had been a major challenge facing his constituents, adding that this had resulted in several clashes between his communities and herdsmen.
“In Enwhe, Isoko South Local Government Area, cattle grazing in areas not designated for it, has caused more harm than good and this has been a big challenge facing my constituents,’’ he said.
On the issue of attaching portfolio to nominees before their appointment, Erijo advised the government to give portfolio to nominees, adding that this would go a long way in promoting better service delivery.
“When you are nominating a person for an appointment, such a person should be given a portfolio, which is in line with his or her professional qualification.
“This will help the person being appointed to contribute positively to the development of the country.
“In advanced countries, once an individual is nominated for an appointment, the portfolio is attached to it immediately,’’ he said.
