Exams: Delta NUT Seeks Govt’s Refund Of Expenses
The Nigeria Union of
Teachers (NUT), Delta State chapter, has appealed to the state government to refund the money its members spent in conducting the 2014/2015 first term examinations in the state.
The NUT Chairman in the state, Mr Joe Iyalekhue, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Asaba.
Iyalekhue said that the state government failed to fund the conduct of the 2014/2015 first and second term examinations in public schools in the state.
He said that government usually released funds for the printing of examination question papers and payment of allowances to invigilators and supervisors in the examinations.
According to him, when government failed to do this during the first and second term examinations, the principals and school heads borrowed funds from money lenders to conduct the examinations.
Iyalekhue said that the state government promised to reimburse them but has failed to do so.
He said that was why the principals and head teachers refused to fund the conduct of the third term examination, compelling government to release money for it.
The chairman said government also reimbursed them for the second term, leaving that of the first term.
He said that the refund should be made immediately, to reduce the interests charged by the money lenders which were already piling up.
