Lale To Succeed Ajienka As UNIPORT VC

Sunday Lale, is set  to succeed Professor Joseph Ajienka as Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, whose tenure will  expire on July 13, 2015.
This followed the decision of the Governing Council of the University in its 151st Extra-ordinary Meeting to appoint Professor Lale as the 8th Vice-Chancellor of the Institution.
Chairman of the Governing Council, Engineer Gesi Asamaowei, who signed the appointment letter dated May 26, 2015, said Professor Lale emerged as the new Vice-Chancellor following favourable consideration of a report by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board that deliberated on the matter.
The emergence of Professor Lale, he said, followed an intensive interview process of candidates by the Senate Selection Panel set up by the Governing Council for that purpose.
The new Vice-Chancellor, who shall hold office for a single tenure of five years,was born 59 years ago in Ebubu, in present-day Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State. He studied Crop Science in his First degree at the University of Maiduguri, between 1978 and 1981, obtaining the First Class (Honours).
He was awarded Doctor of Philosophy degree of the University of New Castle-Upon-Tyne in Agricultural Entomology in the United Kingdom in 1987.
Professor Lale served for over 6 years as pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of the institution, during which period, he introduced several innovative ideas that placed the young faculty on a firm academic and administrative footing.
In addition to the numerous positions he has held in the administrative hierarchy of the UNIPORT, and at the national level, Professor Lale is a seasoned administrator with a track record for getting things done.
He is also a widely-published scholar with several peer-reviewed journals in Nigeria and overseas to his name.
Professor Lale joined the services of the University of Port Harcourt in 1982.

UNIPort Senate Grants Two-Year Amnesty to U2010–U2018 Students

The Senate of the University of Port Harcourt Rivers state has approved a special two-year amnesty for students admitted between the 2010/2011 and 2018/2019 academic sessions who were unable to complete their programmes within the stipulated period.
This was contained in a statement by the university public relations officer,Dr Sammy Kpenu and made available to the tide over the weekend in port Harcourt.
The statement stated that eligible students are expected to submit formal applications addressed to the Vice Chancellor through their respective Heads of Department for review and necessary consideration.
The statement further stated that the approval provides a renewed opportunity for affected students to return, regularize their academic status, and successfully complete their studies.
According to the statement  the amnesty also offers a fresh opportunity to students who had issues related to overstaying or other challenges that forced them to discontinue their programmes, to return and complete their academic pursuits.
The statement however said that the deadline for submission of applications end on 31st May, 2026 and therefore urge the affected students to take full advantage of the window the amnesty provided to realise their academic dreams.

Academic expeditions and excursions take learning beyond the classroom, fostering personal growth, cultural understanding, and hands-on engagement with history, science, and nature. For the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, such outings are a strategic tool for bridging theory with practice.
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Department of Science Laboratory Technology led students on an academic excursion to the NLNG Nature Park in Bonny. The team was led by the Head of Unit, Elizabeth Jumbo, alongside Ikor Peter, Usman Thaha, and Elekwachi Progress. The trip was designed to connect classroom instruction with real-life experiences.
According to the department, the excursion sought to deepen learning by linking theoretical knowledge with tangible, real-world exposure. The exercise also aimed to enhance student engagement and retention while promoting social-emotional skills such as collaboration and empathy. It further catered to diverse learning styles among the students.
