Why Officers Were Suspended – TIMARIV
The management of
Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority (TIMARIV) has given reasons why some officers of the Authority were suspended.
A statement by the Chief Press Officer of the Authority, Nimi Brown West said the officers illegally released impounded vehicles and also collected fines meant for the coffers of the Authority, and that evidence has been deposited with the police while the Acting Controller General of TIMARIV, Confidence Eke has set up an investigative panel.
Brown-West also alleged that the officers physically attacked and molest staff who refused to join in their nefarious activities as well as refused to obey lawful posting and deployment by the Acting Controller General of TIMARIV, Mr Eke.
He alleged that the erring officers break into the office of the Acting Controller General and took away vital and sensitive documents belonging to the Authority, adding that they steal and attempted to sell an operational vehicle belonging to the Authority in Owerri, Imo State, which was foiled by the Anti-kidnapping Unit, Shell camp Owerri.
The Chief Press Officer said they also break into the Zone 5 office located at NITEL Garrison and removed Point on Sale (POS) machine and other equipment belonging to the Authority, and noted that the Authority will no longer engage staff of TIMARIV on the mass media.
“It is the firm belief of the Authority that all staff and officers of the Authority are subject to extant laws guiding employment in a uniform organization, Brown-West said, and advised all those affected by the suspension to appear before the investigative panel set up by the Acting Controller General.
He warned that failure to appear before the panel will lead to their trial in absentia and subsequent dismissal from the services of the Authority.
It would be recalled that seven union executives of AUPCTRE, TIMARIV branch including Comrade Igenewari Ketuphel, were arrested by the police for alleged insubordination and gross misconduct.
