NUJ Tasks Journalists On Professionalism
The Rivers State council of
the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) has tasked media practitioners in the state to be guided by ethics and code of conduct of the journalism profession in the discharge of their duties.
Chairman of the NUJ in Rivers State, Mr. Opaka Dokubo gave the charge in Port Harcourt last Friday, during the election of a new executive for the Federated Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ in Rivers State.
Dokubo who was represented by the Vice Chairman of the Rivers Council of the NUJ, Mr Ayo Tamuno, cautioned against infiltration and quacking in the journalism profession and charged members of the union to always respect the constitution of the NUJ.
He commended members of the chapel for their spirit of sportsmanship during the election and urged the new executive to promote professionalism and discharge its duties effectively.
In his post election speech, the newly elected chairman of the Federated Correspondents chapel, Mr Ernest Chinwo, thanked members of the chapel for re-electing him as their chairman.
He promised to improve on the welfare of members and also address other grey areas to enhance service delivery.
The new chairman said he would work assiduously with the NUJ state council to improve the standard of journalism practice in Rivers State.
In his remark, the Chairman, Election Planning Committee, Mr Mike Mbonye, expressed satisfaction with the level of co-operation among members during the election, and urged politicians to learn from the conduct of journalists and play the game by the rules.
The newly elected officers of the chapel include, Ernest Chinwo, chairman; Godfrey Azubuike, vice chairman; Amaechi Okonkwo, secretary; Inyang Ekon, treasurer; while the post of financial secretary remains vacant.
