Develop Alma Mater, Old Student Tasks Association
Against the background
of deteriorating standard in quality of teaching and infrastructure in Nigeria’s educational institutions, particularly the pre-independence missionary schools, the role of Old Students Associations have become critical to achieving the desired turn-around.
This is the reason the Regina Coeli College, Essene Old Boys Association (RECCOBA) has chosen “The Role of Old Boys in the Development of Our Alma Mater and Colleagues” as theme for the 2014 Annual Lecture.
The chairman of the Port Harcourt chapter of RECCOBA, Sir Finomo Edubio stated this Monday in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Edubio said that the challenges of population explosion and global economic depression have put the provision of adequate learning and dormitory infrastructure beyond the ability of government or missionary bodies alone.
“This is why Old Boys and Girls of the various colleges must now play effective complementary role in the development of their Alma Mater”, he said.
According to him, Prof Celestine T. John, a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology who was the first student of Regina Coeli College, Essene, at inception in January, 1956, will be chairman at the annual lecture on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at No 42 Forces Avenue, Port Harcourt, residence of Chief Francis Bruce, a distinguished Old Boy.
Edubio said the 2014 Annual Lecture/Re-union meeting will also feature a dinner at the same venue and a thanksgiving service on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Corpus Christi Catholic Cathedral, Port Harcourt.
Rev. Father Prof S. I. Udoidem, a professor of Philosophy at the University of Port Harcourt, will be the Guest Lecturer. Most Rev (Dr) John E. Ayah, the Catholic Bishop of Uyo Diocese and Dr. Ndifreke Udonwa, National President of RECCOBA are among distinguished personalities from all over the federation expected at the event, Edubio said.
