NCC Declares Network Jamming Illegal
The jamming of networks
by some agencies in the telecommunication industry has been described as illegal and a violation of privilege.
The Director of Spectrum Administration, Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), Mr Austin Nwaulume said this at the special edition of consumer outreach programme in Abuja recently .
He explained that the network services of the area could be disrupted when jammed.
Nwaulume in the news which was monitored in Port Harcourt believed that jamming could be allowed in designated area, that it becomes illegal when it overshoots its operational zone.
The NCC’s boss told the forum that the commission was making plans to ensure that a law was enacted in the National Assembly to restrict jammers to a designated area.
According to him, the law when enacted would allow jammers to be prosecuted upon failure.
Others who spoke at the gathering recalled that the consumer affairs bureau of the agency was established some 13 years ago, with a view to educating and protecting consumers in the telecommunications industry.
Describing the dependent as the monitoring mirror of the industry, they noted that they reach out to consumers in a more courteous and professional manner.
The Tide learnt that the commission’s outreach programmes are in three stages, Consumer Town Hall Meeting (CTM), Consumer Outreach Programme (COP) and Telecom Consumer Parliament (TCP).
Earlier, some industry watchers have commended the commission over their attempt to protect the interest of consumers.
