FG Set To Auction Seized Vessels In P H
The Federal Government
has said it has received court directive to auction some vessels and vehicles seized by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The Chairman of the Special Committee on Disposal of Forfeited Vehicles and Petroleum Products to Federal Government, Ade Abolorun disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt, last Wednesday during an assessment of the seized vessels by stakeholders in the auctioneering process.
Abolorun, who is also the Commandant General of NSCDC, said transparency and diligence was exhibited by the Special Committee to ensure that due process was followed.
He said the committee comprised stakeholders from all security agencies such as Navy, Army, JTF, and SSS.
The Commandant General also reassured the commitment of the NSCDC to the fight against pipeline vandalism and protection of lives and properties of Nigerians.
He canvassed stiff punishment for pipeline vandals, and called on the media to get actively involved in the fight against pipeline vandalism, through public enlightenment campaigns.
In his remarks, the secretary of the Special Committee, Akinlolu Akintewe, said the Committee’s assessment of the confiscated items was to know whether the vessels and vehicles correspond with the particulars at the Committee’s disposal.
Akintewe, who is also the Director of Public Prosecution in the Federal Ministry of Justice, also disclosed that some of the vessels were still under litigation but assured that due process would be followed in the discharge of its mandate.
